NCT’s Doyoung Reflects on 10th Anniversary and Comeback with Second Solo Album “Soar”

NCT’s Doyoung, known as the “representative vocalist of NCT,” is set to make a powerful solo return with his second album “Soar” on June 9th at 6 PM KST. As he celebrates his 10th debut anniversary, Doyoung opened up about the journey behind this comeback, the challenges of juggling multiple projects, and heartfelt reactions from his fellow members.

In an interview held at a café in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, Doyoung shared, “It’s been 10 years since my debut, but I can’t believe it’s been that long.” Reflecting on the feedback from his members, he revealed, “Mark said my second album was better than my first,” adding that other members also praised the album, calling it “well-made.”

A Busy Yet Healing Process

Doyoung has been balancing intense schedules, including the NCT 127 world tour “The Momentum” (spanning 24 shows across 15 regions) and his appearance in the musical “The Man Who Laughs.” Despite the physical toll, he found the process of creating “Soar” mentally healing.

“People do everything when there’s a deadline,” he laughed. “I recorded four times a week while on tour and doing a musical. It was tough, but I’m proud of myself.”

“People do everything when there’s a deadline,” he laughed. “I recorded four times a week while on tour and doing a musical. It was tough, but I’m proud of myself.”

He differentiated the experiences, calling the album creation a “process” and his concerts the “results.”

“I enjoy the process more than the result. Even though it’s was physically hard, working on the album healed my mind.”

Dedication to Vocal Health

As a main vocalist and now a musical actor, Doyoung takes vocal care seriously. His throat care routine, which drew attention to MBC’s “I Live Alone,” includes constant humidification and vocal training.

“There are many high notes. If your vocalization isn’t right, your voice gives out. I’m taking lessons again to relearn and stay healthy.”

Public Recognition and “I Live Alone”

Thanks to his appearances on “I Live Alone,” Doyoung’s public recognition has grown, especially among older viewers.

“At the airport, aunties and uncles recognized me from the show. I was thankful.”

He hopes to continue appearing on the program, saying the positive response has been encouraging.

Reflections on Solo vs Group Activities

Doyoung noted a clear contrast between solo and group performances, especially in fan interactions.

“With NCT 127, the cheers are explosive. But solo performances feel more like a shared experience, with fans singing along despite language barriers. I’m very grateful for that.”

A Decade in the Industry

Debuting in 2016 with NCT U, Doyoung has now become a senior artist within SM Entertainment, alongside rising juniors like RIIZE, NCT WISH, and Hearts To Hearts.

“It doesn’t feel like I’ve been doing it that long, but time just flew by. We’ve reached the stage where I stand in the back at music shows now,” he joked. “I don’t think of myself as a senior much, but the age gap reminds me (laughs).”
